CHARTERED ARCHITECT/ CO-DIRECTOR
THE ARENA
DESIGN FEATURES
Set in a Cul-de-sac, this sloped site overlooks a marsh and the lush greens of the administrative capital of Sri Lanka. The rigid form of the house is meant to contrast and appreciate its dynamic natural setting. The front of the house portrays a very still, almost impermeable surface. It takes one through a confined series of spaces to an open “arena” with a spectacular view. The drama extends with the journey through this interwoven double-height spaces enabling glimpses of the “Diyawanna Lake” at the highest elevations. The linear form of the house has ensured a large garden as an extension to the house and the marsh.
