ARAKAVILA DANCE AND THEATRE FOUNDATION

DESIGN FEATURES

The story begins in 2006 with a dancer who was born and raised in the village of Arakavila. Recognising the disadvantage that children from the rural areas had over those living in the major towns and cities in developing their creative talents and artistic abilities, she decides to renovate her father's abandoned oil mill to an adaptive dance studio. This was a “budget project” done in a limited period using local labour and skills. This included from the floor to ceiling and grillwork to light the light fitting. Space is naturally ventilated and voluminous to curtail running costs. Its architecture is simple in order to blend in with the rural spirit that embraces both the building and the function as a centre of cultural appreciation.

Total floor area : 3100 sqft
